Editor’s note: Nadine Pascual, BA in Communication and Media, is the founder and president of the CUNY SPS Cosplay Club, which was founded during the Fall 2024 semester.
Our Cosplay Club is dedicated to celebrating creativity, craftsmanship, and community through the art of cosplay. We strive to provide a welcoming space for enthusiasts of all skill levels to share their passion, collaborate on projects, and showcase their work. By fostering friendship and inclusivity, we aim to inspire each other to push our artistic boundaries, learn new skills, and bring our favorite characters to life. Together, we embrace the joy of fandom and the magic of transformation.
Students should join Cosplay Club to express their creativity, meet like-minded friends, and develop new skills in crafting and performance. It offers a supportive community, boosts confidence, and provides exciting opportunities to participate in events and conventions. Overall, it’s a fun way to explore interests while making lasting connections!
During Club Week we got to meet each other and see all the different levels of interest within cosplay. We talked about future events or opportunities to build our skills.
Recently our club collaborated with Youth Studies Club, Anime Club, and Black Student Union for a Halloween Party on October 28. It was a great success and I hope to do other in-person events in the future.
Our next upcoming event is Cosplay Karaoke at Radio Star Karaoke on November 23, 2024 between 5pm-8pm.
The reason this club was created is due to the amount of joy I feel with the cosplay community. It provides people confidence and allows them to be extremely creative. This is a moment they can make some of their favorite characters come to life.
This club doesn’t require an advanced level of creativity. It is open to new individuals interested in cosplay all the way to seasoned cosplayers.
