Are you a budding entrepreneur or creative thinker with an idea that could make waves? The CUNY SPS Management and Entrepreneur Leadership Organization (MELO) invites you to showcase your vision at the virtual MELO Ideation Event on December 12 at 7:00 PM. This exciting bi-annual event offers CUNY SPS students a platform to share their innovative ideas, receive constructive feedback from industry experts, and compete for the top three spots with valuable prizes.
The Essence of Ideation
Since its inception, the MELO Ideation Event has been a springboard for CUNY SPS students to share and refine business ideas in a low-stakes, supportive environment. It’s more than just a competition—it’s a chance to gain insights from experienced judges, make connections with like-minded peers, and receive guidance on developing effective pitches. Whether you’re testing the waters with a fledgling concept or pitching a well-developed plan, this event offers a unique opportunity to explore the potential of your idea.
How to Participate
Students can join the event as contestants or attendees. Contestants will present a three-minute pitch, which can be pre-recorded or delivered live, showcasing their idea’s potential. To enter as a contestant, fill out this survey by December 6. MELO will contact all participants with the option to pre-record their pitch or present it live. If you’re interested in attending as an observer, register here to secure your spot.

What Makes a Winning Pitch?
Judges will evaluate pitches based on five criteria:
- Uniqueness
- Market Segment & Value Proposition
- Feasibility of Technology
- Cost, Benefit, & Profitability
- Special Considerations (like market disruption, social impact, creativity, and scalability)
The goal is to see clear, engaging, and impactful presentations that demonstrate each idea’s potential. The best pitches will capture the judges’ attention through a compelling narrative, logical flow, and a persuasive call to action.
